Is Jose Baez a Blowhard?

After throwing his televised tantrum over the arrest of his client for check fraud, Jose Baez made additional comments to the press concerning the arrest in late August 2008.

Jose Baez: “This is nothing more than an attempt by law enforcement to play mind games with my client. They leaked the arrest to the media and deliberately avoided telling me so she could turn herself in in a dignified fashion. They clearly wanted the media to capture my client in the worst possible light.”

“This is nothing more” – We assume “this” refers to the arrest of Casey Anthony for check fraud, which is close to Mr. Baez.  The arrest is “nothing more” than something other than an arrest.  When is a door not a door?  When it is a-jar!  When is an arrest not an arrest?  When it is “nothing more”!

“than an attempt” – The arrest was “an attempt” and not an arrest.

“by law enforcement to play mind games with my client” – The arrest was not an arrest, but an attempt, which implies an unsuccessful attempt, to “play mind games”.  The client is Mr. Baez’s.  They tried to play mind games, but failed.

“They leaked the arrest to the media” – We assume “they” continues to refer to law enforcement, but we cannot be sure.  One of Mr. Baez’s favorite words, “leaked”, makes an appearance.  How did “they” leak the “arrest to the media”?  We do not know.

“and deliberately avoided telling me” – “They leaked” to the media, but not to Mr. Baez.  “They” did not avoid Mr. Baez by accident, but on purpose.  How does Mr. Baez know if law enforcement “avoided” him and how is he able to ascertain the deliberateness of the action?  We do not know, but Mr. Baez states his assertions as fact.  “Avoided” implies “they” had a duty to tell Mr. Baez, but we know they did not have such a duty.  “They” did not avoid by not informing a person they were not required to inform.  There was no requirement for them to inform Mr. Baez.  We also know from a previous article Mr. Baez sent faxes about the arrest to law enforcement the day of the arrest, so we know he was aware whether “they” told him or not.

“so she could turn herself in in a dignified fashion” – Mr. Baez is concerned about the dignity of his client, the same client who made nasty faces at her mother as she called her names during a jail visit she knew was public record, the same client who peed in a public parking lot.

Order is important.  It is more important to Mr. Baez “they” leaked to the press than “they” did not inform him of the impending arrest.

“They clearly wanted the media to capture my client in the worst possible light” – Who is “they”?  Again, we assume law enforcement, but who specifically in law enforcement wanted the press to see his client “in the worst possible light”?  “Clearly” is a verbal attempt to convince the listeners Mr. Baez’s assertion is the logical conclusion to be drawn from the events.  His need to add “clearly” indicates others will not agree with his assessment.  The police arrested Casey Anthony and locked her up in jail.  This would seem to be their primary goal.

What are the lights other than “the worst possible” to which Mr. Baez refers?  We do not know.  Up to the time of this comment, the public had seen Ms. Anthony arrested for child abuse.  Was her previous arrest in a better “light” than her check fraud arrest?  As we now know, Ms. Anthony pleaded guilty to the check fraud charges.  Did her admission put her in a better light than the arrest for the actions which she claimed as her own?

We have learned the arrest of Casey Anthony for check fraud sent Mr. Baez into an emotional frenzy during which he could not stop talking about how the police did not inform him even though they had no duty to do so.

We have learned Mr. Baez feels law enforcement plans their actions based upon how they will affect Mr. Baez.

We have learned Mr. Baez feels the arrest of Casey Anthony for check fraud put her in a worse light than her previous arrest for child abuse.

We have learned Mr. Baez feels the arrest of Casey Anthony for check fraud put her in the “worst” light, even worse than a possible guilty verdict in her murder trial.  Since she has already been placed in the “worst possible light”, she cannot ever be perceived to be in a worse position than the night of her check fraud arrest.

We have learned Mr. Baez feels it is possible to reclaim dignity after stealing your best friend’s life savings and refusing to assist in locating your missing child.
