Why Does Casey Anthony Refuse Visits From Her Family?

7 Dec

After a few jail visits which were video recorded and released to the public, Casey Anthony refused to allow any further jail visits from her family or friends.

In the most recent motion requesting private family visits, defense attorney Jose Baez argued releasing the videos of the visits to the press is a violation of his client’s right to privacy.

However, the right to privacy has not always been the reason Mr. Baez gave to the public for his client refusing visits.  In this article, we will examine Mr. Baez’s initial claim for the reason Ms. Anthony does not wish to speak with her parents.

The comments of Mr. Baez may be heard at the following link.

http://www.wftv.com/video/17167874/index.html

Reporter: “Why does she continue to deny her family’s requests for visitation?”

Jose Baez: “You know, it’s funny that that comes up and that’s a big mystery to everyone.  When in all actuality, it shouldn’t be a big mystery.  You all know that I wanted the uhhh… the uhhh… visitations kept private because we feel that whoever has Caylee uhh… may feel if she’s talking… may feel that she’s talking to them and may feel that ummm you know if… if it comes out that they’re close you know it could bring harm to Caylee.  So we’re doing this for Caylee.  It’s specifically for that.  And I don’t know why there’s so many reports out there to the contrary.  I mean this is no big mystery.  If you follow this case from the beginning you can see uhhh… what… what we wanted and why we wanted it that way.  We wanted it that way to protect Caylee and that’s what she’s doing, she’s trying to protect her daughter.  That’s specifically why she’s denying it.  It’s not something she wants.  She wants to see her family.  She wants to talk to her family.  But she’s willing to sacrifice that for… for Caylee.”

“You know” – If she knew, the reporter would not have needed to ask the question.  This is a verbal attempt to convince the listener they already “know” and, therefore, agree with the claims of the speaker.

“it’s funny” – Is the reporter’s question amusing?  No, Mr. Baez seems to be using “funny” in the sense of odd or strange.  Mr. Baez finds “it” strange.

“that that” – The first “that” distances Mr. Baez from it being “funny”.  Most likely, it is not “funny” at all.  The second “that” distances Mr. Baez from his client’s denial of visit requests from her family.

“comes up” – Mr. Baez finds it strange reporters ask why Ms. Anthony refuses to see her family at a time when she is incarcerated on suspicion of child abuse and neglect.  Mr. Baez finds it odd anyone would expect a jailed individual to speak with their non-incarcerated family members.

“and that’s a big mystery to everyone” – What is a “big mystery”?  “That”.  What is “that”?  It is the second distancing reference to Ms. Anthony’s refusal of visits with her family.  Or it refers to this topic coming up and the “comes up” is the big mystery and it distances Mr. Baez from the topic coming up, which he would prefer it did not.  Order is important.  It is more important the topic “comes up” than the fact it is a mystery.  “Everyone” is a lie of exaggeration.  It is not a big mystery to “everyone”.  Apparently, Mr. Baez knows the truth behind the mystery and is about to clue in the audience.

“When in all actuality” – In Mr. Baez’s reality or “actuality”, Ms. Anthony’s motives are not a mystery.  “Actuality” is sensitive as seen by the extra word “all”.  This is a poor attempt to convince the listener Mr. Baez’s words reflect “actuality”.

“it shouldn’t be a big mystery” – “It shouldn’t be”, but it is.  “Mystery” is sensitive to Mr. Baez as this is the second time he has referred to it as “big”.

“You all know” – The second attempt to convince the listeners they already “know” what Mr. Baez says.

“that” – Distances Mr. Baez from the claim he is about to make.

“I wanted the uhhh… the uhhh… visitations kept private” – Makes you wonder what he was going to say instead of “visitations”, doesn’t it?

“because we feel” – Mr. Baez switches from “I” to “we” in the middle of a sentence.  This is a sign of deception.  Mr. Baez is not willing to commit these are his feelings.

“that” – Distances Mr. Baez from the next claim, strengthening the assessment of deception.

“whoever has Caylee” – Mr. Baez states this as fact, forcing all who listen to agree someone “has Caylee” when there has been no proof anyone  “has Caylee” and the only person who Ms. Anthony claimed “has Caylee” has not been able to be verified as real by the police.

“uhh… may feel if she’s talking… may feel that she’s talking to them” – Mr. Baez begins stuttering and tripping over his words.  His thoughts do not flow smoothly through his tongue.  Combined with his use of “we” and “that”, Mr. Baez is most likely relating a deception.  Who is the “them” “she’s talking to”?  Cindy and George Anthony?  Or is “them” the people who have Caylee, indicating more than one person has Caylee?

“and may feel that ummm… you know if…” – Mr. Baez is making stuff up as he speaks.  None of this is what he or anyone else ever felt prior to his statement as he has no words to describe his feelings as he would if he had discussed this even once prior to this interview.  More distancing with “that”, another attempt to persuade the listener they “know” what Mr. Baez is unable to articulate.

“if it comes out that they’re close” – If it “comes out that” who is “close” to what?  Notice another use of the word “that”.  The word “close” could mean close to finding Caylee or her abductor or it could refer to the family dynamic.  “If it comes out that” the family is supportive of each other, Caylee could be harmed.  Theoretically, according to her own testimony, Ms. Anthony knows who took her daughter so there is no “close” to worry about.  She already identified the kidnapper.

“you know it could bring harm to Caylee” – How does “you” know this?  Why do recorded jail visits lead to “harm to Caylee”?  Mr. Baez is attempting to convince the press his statements lead to the conclusion Caylee will be harmed if his wishes are not followed.  Mr. Baez is threatening harm will come to Caylee if he and his client do not get their way.

“So we’re doing this for Caylee” – Mr. Baez and his client want what they want and somehow their demands are “for Caylee”.  Mr. Baez assigns a motive to Ms. Anthony’s actions beyond her own self-interest by invoking the name of her missing child, the same missing child Ms. Anthony refuses to help police locate.  Nothing Mr. Baez has ever done has been for Caylee.  Mr. Baez has no interest, either personal or business, in helping Caylee.  Mr. Baez includes himself in the refusal for visits with “we’re doing this”.

“It’s specifically for that.” – His claim is so ludicrous, Mr. Baez must add an additional sentence again stating his efforts and the actions of his client are “for Caylee”.  “Specifically” acknowledges the existence of other possible reasons which Mr. Baez does not address.  “That” again distances Mr. Baez from one of his statements.

“And I don’t know why there’s so many reports out there to the contrary” – Mr. Baez does not know why there are “so many reports” “to the contrary” of the reasons which Mr. Baez is unable to articulate in a comprehensible manner.  Mr. Baez cannot clearly state why he and Ms. Anthony refuse to allow visits with her parents, but is surprised others are also unable to follow his ramblings and apply their own perceptions to their “reports”, which are not fictional as they are “reports”.

“I mean” – Mr. Baez acknowledges his previous statement is not clear and could be misconstrued by others.  Mr. Baez acknowledges he is a poor communicator.

“this is no big mystery” – Mr. Baez switches from “that” to “this”.  Now, he is close to the refusal to allow visits.  Again, he uses the term “big mystery”.  If it is “no big mystery”, is it a small mystery or no mystery?

“If you follow this case from the beginning you can see uhhh… what… what we wanted and why we wanted it that way.” – Order is important.  What they wanted is more important than why they wanted it.  Protecting Caylee is not as important as Ms. Anthony not speaking to her parents.  Protecting Caylee is not “specifically” the reason for what they wanted.

“We wanted it that way to protect Caylee and that’s what she’s doing, she’s trying to protect her daughter” – Mr. Baez must again explain they wanted what they wanted for the reason of protecting Caylee, showing sensitivity to this being the real reason.  If she is “trying to protect her daughter”, she is not protecting her daughter.  Refusing visits is not protecting Caylee.  Two more “that”s.

“That’s specifically why she’s denying it.” – Another “that”, another re-statement of the sensitive purpose.  Second use of “specifically” indicating sensitivity to this being the specific reason.

“It’s not something she wants” – What does she not want?  To visit with her family?  To protect Caylee?  To deny visits?  We do not know.

“She wants to see her family” – First, Mr. Baez tells us what she does not want, now he tells us what she does want.  She wants to “see her family”.  Does she want to visit with them?  Does she wish to talk with them?  We do not know.

“She wants to talk to her family” – Now we know, she does want “to talk to her family”.  Why does Mr. Baez feel the need to separate “see” and “talk”?

“But she’s willing to sacrifice that for… for Caylee.” – What is she willing to sacrifice?  Talking or seeing?  Both?  Another use of “that”.  Is the reason for the sacrifice really “for Caylee”?

We have learned Mr. Baez initially told the public Ms. Anthony refused visits with her family to protect Caylee from whoever held her captive.

We have learned Mr. Baez and Ms. Anthony wanted to cut off communication with Cindy and George Anthony more than they wanted to protect Caylee.

We have learned Ms. Anthony’s rights to privacy in regards to jail visitations were not violated prior to Caylee Anthony’s body being discovered, but since Caylee is no longer in danger, Mr. Baez now claims the same procedures do violate her rights to privacy.

We have learned Mr. Baez and Ms. Anthony feel getting what they want is more important than the reasons for why they want it and will change the reason to suit their purposes as the opportunity presents.

I’ve always wondered, after everything that has come out, if Casey isn’t afraid to be alone face to face with Cindy. It was one thing when she could rant and rave over the telephone during those jailhouse visits before Caylee’s body was discovered, but since then I’ve alway felt if Cindy ever got her hands on Casey she’d wring her neck and wonder if Casey doesn’t feel the same way. Besides, she’s in jail now and can’t manipulate them the way she used to so maybe to her there’s no point in meeting with any of her family, Lee included.

Cindy is the key to KC’s thinking. She hid Caylee’s death to keep it from Cindy. She left the house to avoid Cindy. She begged Cindy for one more day. She blamed Cindy for her arrest.

Is she afraid to confront Cindy? I am not sure, but I am sure she doesn’t want to speak with her.

  2. offthecuff December 7, 2010 at 4:21 pm #

It’s obvious that Casey can’t be trusted to talk to anyone. Baez keeps her from her family by telling her whatever, so that she won’t keep up the blabbering about her poor, widdle self, her changing stories about Caylee’s disappearance, and her hate for her family.

No one knows or can control what Casey may say next in an open environment, but whatever she might say would incriminate her more and mess up Baez’ case of innocence.

Baez may not be able to keep his mouth shut, but he doesn’t want Casey to open hers.

    • bullstopper December 7, 2010 at 6:02 pm #

Yeah, she makes it hard for Jose to keep up the mother of the year fiction whenever she opens her mouth or writes a letter.

  3. Brad 'shopping cart' Conway December 7, 2010 at 4:48 pm #

She got sick of her parents pestering her about Caylee. She has no use for anyone but herself, she hates her family. She blames Cindy for calling the cops instead of allowing her “one more day”, imo.

Besides, she won’t be able to lie about her “horrible” childhood if she’s buddy buddy with her parents.

    • bullstopper December 7, 2010 at 6:04 pm #

I agree she is sick of her parents.

It seems the only friend she cared about was Tony and he ditched her as soon as he found out she killed Caylee. Jose is trying to fool the world, but she couldn’t even fool the guy she was sleeping with.

great artocle spot on. my question to mr. baez is now that we found caylees body and there is no reason to protect caylee anymore what is the reason for the non visitation-we all know but would love to have him run his mouth off with imaginary reasons

    • bullstopper December 7, 2010 at 6:10 pm #

Interesting question because he steers the current conversation towards privacy rights, yet never explains what the possible damage to his client would be if her communications are made public. Before, the negative consequence was harm to Caylee. Now, it’s just KC wants to keep her communications private.

A move from feigned selflessness to acknowledged selfishness.

  5. nums24 December 7, 2010 at 7:36 pm #

Bullseye with this article! I’m sure Bozo will find some way of “spinning” why the family doesn’t visit.

    • bullstopper December 7, 2010 at 9:14 pm #

Cindy is still doing it to protect Caylee because she still has doubts…

  6. getreal December 7, 2010 at 10:01 pm #

Hi Bull.. I have really tried to stay away and not come hear to comment . But, I have lost the fight. There is just such disparity between what you “analyze” and what you and your guests say… For example, Bull, your comment at 6:04 pm. You say that Baez tries to fool the world but Casey coudn’t even fool the guy she was sleeping with. WTH… present tense.. past tense… and 2 totally different issues. And , you agree, she is totally sick of her parents??? Seems this is the gist of your post, so people should be agreeing with you. You really should find something more interesting to write about. Casey does not plan to see her parents.. it has been over 2 years. Why would she now?

    • bullstopper December 7, 2010 at 10:55 pm #

It is the same issue – lying.

Jose lies to the world. For example, in this article we hear him say KC is protecting Caylee by not speaking to her parents. There’s your WTH.

KC lied to Tony about where Caylee was and her car. As soon as Tony saw the arrest, he started thinking about contacting the police. Why? Because he knew she was capable of what at the time was pure speculation with no evidence, the murder of her child. She wanted to talk to him but he wanted nothing to do with her. He knew her. She continues to fool others, but not Tony. He knows.

  7. getreal December 7, 2010 at 10:10 pm #

Brad”shopping cart”Conway… You say the same thing over and over on all the blogs you visit.. Why can’t you at least say something that all blog reades haven’t known for over 2 years. Respctfully submitted. lol.

You should find something else to amuse you while you lie there in your misery.

  8. midget48 December 8, 2010 at 12:22 am #

getreal, the murder of Caylee was in august, 2008, almost 2 and one half years ago, so i do not find it unusual for bloggers, includng you and me, to be redundant. it seems we are all beating a dead horse to death. respectfully submitted, of course. lol

  9. getreal December 8, 2010 at 12:43 am #

Well Bull, I certainly didn’t know that Tony “knew Casey was capable” of murdering her child. How could he possibly know that. When they slept together, did she treat him in a fashion that suggested she could or would kill her child? Or that she could or would kill anyone for that matter. Of course after he found out she didn’t tell him the truth about Caylee missing and it became a police matter, then he just told them what little he knew about her, which wasn’t much. I’ll just bet Tony never gave Caylee a thought on July 13th or 14th or any other night during that month that she stayed with him, and slept with him. And, I am sure if Cindy had not tracked Casey down at his apartment on July 15th, that they would have undoubtedly had sex that night. So, you are basically saying that Tony’s “sense” of the kind of woman she was didn’t bother him at all? He surely must have been thinking with his little head. Bull, that entire comment is preposturous.Tony knew her??? She fooled others, but not Tony???? He knew??? Again, I must say WTH.

    • bullstopper December 8, 2010 at 9:24 am #

He knew she was capable from the first moment the possibility was presented to him through the local news.

Why do you think he immediately dropped her? She never meant anything to him and he was able to fit all the puzzle pieces together in his own head.

Yes, he ignored everything for sex. But even he was concerned when he woke up and found her crying over her laptop.

She has not fooled anyone. Some choose to ignore the evidence.

Midget, wasn’t the murder of Caylee in June {15th or 16th} of 2008. Yes, the beating of the dead horse is what I find so absurd. If the case is discussed at all, why does it have to go over what we know already. Keep it in the now. Say, the most recent happenings or at least something in the recent month.

    • bullstopper December 8, 2010 at 9:30 am #

The “now” has nothing to do with this case.

Caylee was murdered in June 2008.

The events surrounding June 2008 are the critical events.

You can prove this to yourself by watching the trial during which they will focus almost exclusively upon May – July 2008. They will go farther back and they will cover some of the events since, but the vast bulk of the trial will be about this time period.

      • jon December 8, 2010 at 11:05 am #

They’ll go further back to bring up the early searches for choloroform on the internet. It was a while ago that I heard this, but am I correct in thinking that they found these as early as March 2008 if not before?

      • bullstopper December 8, 2010 at 2:23 pm #

They will go back and they will go forward, but the bulk of the trial will be about KC’s actions in June and July 2008.

What makes you think people have to do what you say????

  11. kmom December 8, 2010 at 2:10 am #

I think all that Casey has left in her gruesome bag of tricks is to try and manipulate and control her family by withholding her acknowledgement of them.

A ransom perhaps, but a punishment to be sure. For calling 911, for testifying before the grand jury, etc.

This is her only control mechanism, and it works, at least on Cindy. Cindy craning her neck, trying to get Casey’s attention, it is pitiful that Cindy tries so hard. I think she says that Caylee is still alive as an appeasement to Casey.

Cindy was so willing to believe that Caylee had been kidnapped. Had I been Casey’s mother and she came across with the 31 days missing via the nanny story, there would not have been much left of her by the time LE arrived. But not Cindy- her response was “Who took her?”

At least Baez realizes (it may be his ONLY realization)that it is also in his client’s best interest not to visit or speak with her family, and it is a calculated bonus to Casey.

Yet he is too dumb to shut his own mouth. Interesting, isn’t it?

sorry. yes,the murder was in june, 2008. oops!

Could it be they allowed Caylee’s body to be found by Kronk?

    • bullstopper December 8, 2010 at 2:26 pm #

I don’t think any of the defense wanted the body to be found and would have preferred someone with a really dirty back history.

  14. Chester December 8, 2010 at 1:24 pm #

Here, here kmom, I agree Casey is just using this as a way to keep up the big F/U to mom.

I think before the murder, Casey resented Cindy a great deal, but she also had enough fear of Cindy that she would appease her just enough to keep Cindy supporting her, and keep access to that gravy train of BoA accounts and credit cards.

Now that Cindy no longer has anything to lord over Casey, Casey feels free. IMO, Casey is enjoying jail. Well, maybe enjoying is going a bit far. But she said herself in one of her idiotic letters to Muffin (or was it Cookie?), that she felt ‘independent’ for the first time in her life.

And really, it is the first time she has not been dependent on Cindy. That is empowering to her, and she is expressing that power and control in about the only way she can, by denying visits.

I suspect she will never allow them to visit, even after being convicted. Unless C&G cut off her commissary cash. I bet that would have a pretty immediate effect.

I do wonder if Cindy is too stupid to figure this out, this one small way to get some control back over Casey. I suppose Cindy thinks that would reflect badly on their ‘close’ family fiction, if she would deny her princess any type of support.

Whew, write a book why don’t I? These people irk (and interest) me to no end.

    • bullstopper December 8, 2010 at 2:27 pm #

KC knows she is getting to Cindy because Cindy keeps writing her letters begging for visits. As long as Cindy shows weakness, KC will continue to deny visits.
