Did Jose Baez Really Want Caylee Anthony Found?

3 Feb

Shortly after her initial arrest, Casey Anthony’s attorney Jose Baez spoke to the press about his desire to locate missing two-year-old Caylee Anthony.  Mr. Baez’s statements may be found at the following link.

http://www.clickorlando.com/news/16950901/detail.html

“We want to find Caylee,” Anthony family attorney Jose Baez said. “I have had in-depth and long conversations with my client and she has asked to help cooperate. She wants to cooperate.”

“We want” – Who is we?  Presumably, Mr. Baez and Ms. Anthony, but he could be referring to himself and other defense attorneys (although he had none beyond the employees of the Baez Law Firm at the time) or himself and the Anthony family.  We do not know.  “Want” indicates a desire, a voluntary wish.  This is an event “we” desires to see happen.

“to find Caylee” – The word “find” indicates Caylee is lost or missing.  Later in the same article, Casey Anthony’s mother insists Caylee is being held by a deranged babysitter and states, “I trust Casey wholeheartedly that where Casey says she is, is where she is.”  If Casey is saying where Caylee is, Caylee is not lost.  She would not need to be found, she would need to be retrieved from a known location.  Either Casey Anthony was telling her mother something different than what she was telling her attorney, or Mr. Baez misunderstood her statements in regards to Caylee’s location, or Mr. Baez is misrepresenting (commonly known as lying) his client’s assertions.

“I have had in-depth and long conversations with my client” – Mr. Baez reverts to “I”, making for a stronger statement and indicating truth.  This has happened.  He has had “in-depth and long conversations” with his client.  However, he is sensitive about these conversations as indicated by the use of two modifiers, “in-depth” and “long”.  He is either uncomfortable with the conversations themselves (he learned what he does not want to know) or he is uncomfortable discussing the conversations with others even though he attempts to use them in this sentence to bolster his claim of Ms. Anthony’s desire to cooperate, indicating the “conversations” would not support his statement should the public become aware of the knowledge communicated during the “conversations”.

“and she has asked to help cooperate” – How can someone “help cooperate”?  Is not cooperation a form of helping?  By tying these two words together, Mr. Baez is telling the public Ms. Anthony has no intention of cooperating by pulling cooperation itself off the table.  All she is willing to do is “help cooperate”, a meaningless phrase.  Who has she “asked”?  Apparently, only Mr. Baez.  This statement is made in the past tense, “she has asked”, indicating she is not currently asking and her past asking was not answered in a manner which led to either cooperation or helping to cooperate.

Order is important.  It is more important to Mr. Baez to tell the reporter he has personally had “in-depth and long conversations” rather than of his client’s desire to cooperate with law enforcement to locate her missing child.  Mr. Baez’s focus, as always, is upon himself first, then his client, then the victim.  It is vital to Mr. Baez the world understands he has spoken with his client, he is doing his job, he has met his responsibilities.  It is far less vital to locate missing Caylee Anthony.

“She wants to cooperate” – Mr. Baez switches from past to present tense.  In the last sentence, Ms. Anthony “has asked”, but now she “wants”.  With whom does Ms. Anthony wish to cooperate?  With law enforcement who is searching for Caylee Anthony?  Or with Mr. Baez who is defending Ms. Anthony?

We have learned helping to cooperate is not cooperation.

We have learned Mr. Baez was as full of malarkey a week into the investigation as he is today.

    Another great reading 🙂

That shiester wanted Caylee found under “his terms”. How can a respectable attorney even consider tampering with the job of LE????? Baez is done.

    Note to Geraldo:
Please pick up Baez and tie him to your anchor and slowly lower it. Ahoy~~~

Finding or not finding the child should not worry him if in fact his client could give evidence supporting her claims of innocence. Whatever she did at the crime scene was recorded once the body was found and as the circumstantial evidence mounted Mr Baez could do little more than read the probable cause affidavit to find out what his client’s defense would be. He knew what we all knew: the child was reported missing but the evidence found in the vehicle pointed to murder.

How he could say that he has had “in-depth and long conversations” with Ms Anthony regarding the whereabouts of her child is more than likely false. Lots of defense lawyers don’t want to know. If she told him that she buried the child on Suburban Drive he would have had to call the police. She would be in a much better position today had she simply confessed.

We see and hear in the early jailhouse videos (July and August 2008) a clear indication that Ms Anthony was not interested in answering any questions asked by her parents relative to the whereabouts of Caylee but instead she is much more interested in “my case”.

I am sure that Mr Baez told her that things would not change whether or not the child was found. Had the child’s remains never been found she would still have been charged with Felony Murder in the First Degree.

Was this conversation at the time Casey wanted out to help locate Caylee?

Why, oh why, would it take “in-depth and long conversations” with her lawyer for a supposedly desperate and innocent mother to “want to help cooperate”?

How about a screaming, short conversation demanding to know where her child was and telling everything straight up, if she was truly emotionally legit?

At that point, I think she was hiding behind not telling everything for the safety of her family and Caylee. But Baez was probably also gagging her to keep the ludicrous, self-incriminating,and multiplying lies from spilling forth.

per Baez…”this case will be tried in a courtroom and not the courthouse steps. We will all find out the truth at trial”.

Boy, oh Boy….taped footage sure does come back to bite ya. Just ask Cindy.

Casey Anthony did what most people do once they have murdered someone-they hide the body and get the hell out of dodge. She drove the 9.5 miles to Tony L.’s apartment and planted her behind there until her mother came and got her. She was 20 minutes away from home for 31 days and in the course of those 31 days lied on a daily basis to her mother and those who she cooked and cleaned for.

She had no need to do her own investigation but simply wait until someone missed the child enough to call the police. It isn’t too difficult to retrace her steps amid all the lies. She never looked back but forgot to think about all those who would.

Prior to the finding of the child’s remains Lawson Lemar released a statement about why he felt it was not in the best interest of the law and the citizens of Florida to move forward with the Death Penalty (12/04/2008) To review this doc and read Ms LDBurdict’s Motion click on the link below:

Hi Annonymous – what is your take on your link?

  8. C~A February 3, 2011 at 5:48 pm #

Venice…I knew that was you before i got the bottom. 🙂

Hi everyone – Thanks to Venice I have found a new place to post for Justice for Caylee. Precious angel will get her Justice if there is a God! As far a bozo goes, I think it’s fair to say that although Dom Casey seems as sleazy as bozo, he was probably telling the truth when he said that Bozo told him NOT to call LE if he found Caylee the day he went out searching in the woods. He was Cindy and Georgie girls P>I so IMO the whole damn bunch of them know the truth and knew where to look. It went from Casey to Bozo to Cindy to Dominque.

C-A-“My take” on the article I linked relates to the discussion relative to how Mr Baez handled his client during the early days of the death investigation-it was never a missing child investigation.

Dec 5, 2008 Lawson Lemar issued a press release on why the death penalty would not be part of the sentencing (no body was found).

“Now that they do not have that burdon of deciding whether a life or death sentence should be imposed it would be easier for them (jurors) to accept the circumstantial evidence and find her guilty of first degree murder, explained WFTV legal analyst Bill Shaeffer.

“On Wednesday the DEFENSE filed a motion asking prosecutors what legal reasons, called “aggravating circumstances” under the law they would use to argue Casey deserves the death penalty”. (as if he didn’t already know).

“If something was to change, for instance if Caylee’s body were to be found before the case goes to trial, prosecutors could change their minds and decide to go for the death penalty”.

These “in-depth and long conversations” were never about where the child was. Ms Anthony knew either way that she was facing life in prison or the death penalty. Gone were the days when she could have plead out and said it was an accident. 35-40 years would have looked pretty good to anyone who had accidently killed a child. A gift in my opinion.

The day that the remains were found can be linked back to those “in-depth, long conversations” about the meaning of life and death.

IMO, a person does not “want to cooperate” or “ask to cooperate” , or even “try to cooperate”……. They cooperate, or they do not cooperate,, Inmate was NOT interested in any cooperation… Great article Bullstopper…thanks

  11. maxineme February 3, 2011 at 9:26 pm #

Bullstopper,, Did you notice in the Bill Sheaffer interview with Kathi Belich,,that he said, Boaz has been OVER zealous in defense of casey??? whereas, all us bloggers are ALL thinking, Boaz sat around for over two years doing NOTHING….. I think Shaeffer was making a subtle(very telling) remark about his feelings about the behaviors between inmate and jose. Very inappropriate behaviors, to say the least. I think I am off topic.. I am sorry..

    • bullstopper February 3, 2011 at 9:49 pm #

I did notice the overzealous statement and found it to be odd.

I think he was referring to Baez being too quick to run with every scenario of KC’s innocence despite their contradictory natures, like maybe there’s a Zanny, but maybe at the same time Kronk took her and was moving the body from place to place, while at the exact same time a Puerto Rican drug gang was transporting her by private plane to a far away country as part of a dead prostitute cover-up.

But he was struggling to come up with “overzealous” and it is obvious he wanted to say something else. And Baez has been caught in some compromising situations with his client.

    jbmission……..

How in God’s name can you respect Jose Angel Baez???? Please enlighten me. I am horrified after his demeanor in court today!!! SHAMEFUL!

  15. Anonymous February 5, 2011 at 12:36 pm #

Venice-I think she is outraged about how others evaluate Mr Baez. Everything that has ever gone wrong during pretrial can be linked directly to the media and the prosecutors and to a judge who does not know what he is doing and when he is at the top of his game he is favoring the State. Not a discouraging word is ever said about the person who brought all these people together.

She is sympathetic towards Mr Baez because she knows what an uphill battle he faces in light of his inexperience and immaturity. We should all be concerned for any defendant who has an ineffective advocate who comes to court unprepared and with an obvious chip on his shoulder.

JB is nothing but a juvenile playing a game,He brown noses when he has too otherwise it’s a game to him!
This video shows his actions are not appropriate and just how serious he takes the case!
It is so obvious to watch him and kc from the mark 2:49!
Watch caseys hands direct him first to the left, then to the right…and he blocks the cam while she thinks she’s getting away with giving the court the finger! While they laugh!
    It is soooooooooo Obvious!
JB this is Caylee’s justice and not a dang playground for you and your snickers and games with the mother of a child whose dead!
You are the lowest form of life there possibly can ever be……jmo!
