If Mr. Baez Doesn’t Know How He Became Lead Defense Attorney in the Caylee Anthony Murder Trial, Who Does?

1 May

A mere two weeks before jury selection in the most prominent case in which defense attorney Jose Baez has ever been involved, let alone led the defense efforts, he found time to give a lengthy multi-part interview to a national television news organization.  During the interview, Mr. Baez is asked questions about how he met his client Ms. Anthony.  The comments of Mr. Baez may be seen and heard at the following link.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkIDPgvXAgo

Reporter: “How did you get to this spot?  Running one of the biggest cases many people say since OJ, how did you get to this place?”

Jose Baez: “I really don’t know.  And that’s my honest… that’s my honest uhh… answer.”

“really” – This word is a signpost of dishonesty.  The presence of this word in a declarative statement forces the astute listener to question the truthfulness of the statement because the speaker is highlighting a personal sensitivity to his statements being accepted as truth, especially the statement to which the “really” applies.  Does Mr. Baez “really” not know?  Since Mr. Baez and the reporter treat this answer as a joke, the audience is led to believe this is not the true answer and Mr. Baez does “really” know how he became involved in the Casey Anthony case and how he ended up on national television giving an exclusive interview just two short weeks prior to jury selection in the biggest trial of his career.

Reporter: “How did you end up getting involved with Casey Anthony?”

Jose Baez: “Well… apparently, there were a couple of people in the jail that referred…gave her my name and referred me to her.  So… I’ve heard people say “Ahh, he’s lucky this landed on his lap”, and it didn’t do that.”

“apparently” – This word is another of the easily spotted signposts of dishonesty.  This word allows the speaker to shed personal responsibility for the statement as this is not his answer, but the apparent answer, the answer all can see.  Mr. Baez is not attempting to shed any light on subject, in fact, he is avoiding answering the question.  Mr. Baez states what he believes everyone already knows.

“there were a couple of people in the jail” – Mr. Baez states there were an unknown “couple” who gave his name to Ms. Anthony.  Although there is an urban myth Ms. Anthony was referred to Mr. Baez by someone she spoke to in jail, no such person has ever come forward and taken public credit for this act in almost three years.  Now, Mr. Baez adds a second such person to the myth.

“referred me to her” – This phrase is confusing as it could mean someone referred Mr. Baez as an attorney to Ms. Anthony or it could be the reverse, someone referred “me”, Mr. Baez, to Ms. Anthony as a client.  In other words, this sentence could mean someone at the jail notified Mr. Baez of a possible client in need of his services.

“it didn’t do that” – This case did not land in the lap of Mr. Baez.  He did something, he put forth effort, he affected events, so this case became his.  Mr. Baez is affirming he did not become involved in this case by accident and he does know how he became involved contrary to his initial answer of “I really don’t know”.

Jose Baez: “So, I think I landed this case through hard work.”

Mr. Baez thinks, but others may “think” differently.  The belief of Mr. Baez is he “landed this case through hard work”.   Mr. Baez worked and the result of his efforts was involvement in this case.  Mr. Baez put forth effort to become involved in this case.  Others “think” Mr. Baez did not work to get this case, but he knows he did.  What did Mr. Baez do to convince Casey Anthony he was the attorney she needed?

We have learned Mr. Baez knows how he became involved in this case and with Casey Anthony.

We have learned Mr. Baez does not wish to reveal any details of the first meeting between himself and Ms. Anthony.

We have learned Mr. Baez worked to become a part of this case, work he was able to accomplish in less than a day as he was the attorney of record the day after Ms. Anthony was booked into jail.

Did Geraldo contact him, or someone like Pete Benevides who fronted the money for NeJame to give to Kronk via PB’s foundation “Never Lose Hope”, & who also was the “anonymous benefactor” who put up bail for the Inmate the second or third time, after the Padilla’s withdrew theirs. Or, did Mason contact him so that he could have his finger in the pie IF it were to become a DP case rather than a simple homicide case (which it had been until Caylee’s skeleton & other articles were dug up as a result of Kronk’s discovery) ? Inquiring minds really would like to know, & the public has a right to know, particularly the paying FL taxpaying public. jmho

I wonder if Casey will be departing from the jail in one of PB’s private jets?

Good afternoon. In the very earliest days of this case someone wrote that Casey and Baez’s daughter knew each other. Maybe they met much earlier? Also, there was a hint that maybe Casey “knew” him as a “personal” friend.

THAT I BELIEVE THINK!! WHERE DID SHE SPEND THE FIRST WEEKS WHEN BAEZ FIRST TOOK HER CASE IN HIS OFFICE FOR HOURS ID SAY SHE KNEW HIM WELL

    Yay!! Bull is back!!

    now to read!

You must be right, Bull. Baez has all kinds of time on his hands to do these interviews.

He must have his defense all lined up, ready to go and he simply has nothing better to do.

He sounds ashamed of having landed Casey’s case. And now he’s gotta reach way down and pull out all the stops to bluster through this trial.

The hypocrisy of using the media just days before trial. Wow…now, that is desperation. This case has been blown way bigger than it is; and the day this nobody Casey is sentenced, and the fame-seeking lawyers crawl back under their rock, the world will be at peace again.

I am in shock at the hate being spoken @ themission about the Judge. The hate and anger is so thick, you can cut it with a knife. Life is too precious to contain that much disdain towards our societal professionals.

Hi Bull. Great article. It doesn’t surprise me that even a simple question as how did you become Casey’s lawyer Baez can’t give a simple truthful answer. Those two have seemed to me like they already knew each other before.

If you want to read something interesting, look at Georges’ Interview with LE, where he talks about Baez. He does not like him at all!! But what’s interesting is he has no idea where he came from either. He thinks LE might have recommended him (he is immediately set straight on that).

Baez is strangely uninterested in getting paid as well, telling George that Casey has already given him something like $1400. George knows that’s BS. He keeps telling George not to worry about it. Riiiiiight.

It’s very interesting to read, especially in retrospect.

Baez probably pays people to write his name/number on the jailhouse walls.

Venice, agree with your 3:43pm post. Judge Perry is a fair and honest judge and that is not good for Casey or anyone that wants to say she is innocent. How anyone can ever think she is innocent is beyond me. It is so beyond me i have to wonder, do they really believe she is innocent or do they just want to be different.

    • Venice May 1, 2011 at 4:52 pm #

      Hi Knight 🙂
It’s not so much whether they find her guilty or innocent, it’s the hate they have for the Judge and LE. I’ve never seen anything like it. I would not want to live with that much anger.

I am more curious on how a 3rd year lawyer is the 1st Chair (Lead Attorney) on a high profile DP case. I have a friend that put in 5 years as a court appointed defense attorney that said a youngster is never given 1st chair. I took it as experience. So Baez does not know how Casey came to want him? I assure you Strickland and Perry asked Casey in open court if she was happy with her representation. Guess what fans….Casey loves him. I hope that is stated if any appeals come up in the future.

    • Venice May 1, 2011 at 5:38 pm #

Casey had more than enough opportunities to speak. She never did. Not once.

    • Kim May 1, 2011 at 6:57 pm #

Casey stated in court, on record, that she is satisfied with her lawyer. I believe it was to J. Strickland

GOD HELP HER IF BAZE STAYS HER LAWLER WE KNOW SHE IS QUILTY BUT SHE DOSENT HAVE A CHANCE WITH THAT SLIME BALL

So, Bozo doesn’t want to reveal details of his first meeting with the felon/inmate? Would this be the meeting where the client-to-be stated she had money in the bank to pay him? I believe the amount was $5,000. I love it when the fool(s) get fooled.

  11. Kim May 1, 2011 at 7:32 pm #

I really enjoy your articles.. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

I wait ever so patiently for new post :). Bozo has snaeky writing all over his face.

Yes, Bull is a logical writer. Thank God for COMMON SENSE.

    • becca May 2, 2011 at 9:33 pm #

A refreshing change from Jose’s incessant incoherent rants. Everytime I hear him speak I think of that scene from Billy Madison “everyone in this room is a little dumber for having listened”

  14. Venice May 2, 2011 at 6:11 pm #

For those who called Judge Perry a PIG….SHAME ON YOU! You will never find a more fair Judge. Is he still a pig after today? I want to know.

    • ELAINE May 26, 2011 at 4:18 pm #

HEY THIS JUDGE IS A NO NONSENCE JUDGE AND F A I R IM GLAD TOO SEE HIM PUT DOWN ALL THE STUPID QUESTIONS THAT BAEZ ASK OVER AND OVER NEEDLE FOR YOU CASEY

  15. cecelia May 2, 2011 at 6:35 pm #

ooooh watching that vid made my blood boil… wonder if the child he was FORCED to pay child support for thinks HO-Say wasn’t a “quitter” when he couldn’t be bothered with even monetary support. Bet his creditors wish he wouldn’t “quit” paying his bills…. oh right no C BS around

  16. Venice May 2, 2011 at 9:41 pm #

This case is really unsettling. Casey’s parents and her attorney have really done her a disservice! I just don’t understand why these people acted as horribly as they did. One word. EGO.

loved boso’s comment not only was he a high school drop out but so proudly stated chany was one too! both losers felt the need to give big interviews when they should have been preparing for a dp case. or is that part of their preperation. taint thee jury pool just a bit more just before jury selection. so we have a drop out casey, with a drop out attorney base. who else on her dream team is a flunky? no wonder jp is constantly having to remind them how to present their case. cant wait for trial, should prove interesting

What is really interesting is the talking to other people when she has always been sequestered.
